Barkalow Orphan Lines

Orphan lines, by assigned definition here, can be any lines with ancestral OR descendancy connection problems. They will invariably lack hard evidentiary documentation such as bibles, church or probate records.

Daniel Willemse Barkaloo(c1668-a1705) of New York City, New York Co.,NY.

CHRONOLOGY OF COINCIDENTAL OR LINKABLE EVENTS:

NOTE- Daniel Willemse BARKALOW, son of Willem Jans Lubberdick van Borculo(c1621-1683) and 2) Lysebet Janse CLAESZEN(c1650-p1682) is an "Orphan Line" candidate because he had no sons to carry on the Barkalow name. His surname line is a dead-end. He did, however, have two surviving daughters who married and produced descendants.

1. Daniel Willemse BARKLOO, is born, by best estimates of Mrs. John M. Spell, about 1668 in Gravesend, Kings Co.,NY, where his father, Willem Jans van Borculo resided.

2. Daniel BARKELOO marries May 4,1700, in the New York Dutch Church, Elizabeth Garretse Blauvelt(b.c1680,Kings Co.,NY-d. April,1762,NYC., the only child of Garret Hendricksen and his 2nd wife, Josyntje Thomas, widow of Peter Wesselzen.)).

5. Marytje BARKLOO, is baptised 4 Mar 1705, in the Reformed Dutch Church of New York(City). Note- she probably died young(Mrs. Spell) Wit.: Johannes Van Norden and Catlyntie Serly(ibid.:305)

6. Daniel Willemse BARKALOO is dead by Mar.4,1705. He was recorded as being deceased at the baptism of his youngest child, Marytje.

EVALUATING ANCESTRY PROBABILITIES:

Because Daniel Willemsen Barkaloo did not have any known sons baptized before he died in 1704 or 1705, the Barkalow surname, at least died with him. His widow, Elizabeth Garretse (Blauvelt) Barkeloo, married 2nd) 18 Oct.1707, in the NY Dutch Church, Theophilus Pels, a rope maker and widower of Cathalina Benson. They had six children-- Bregje, Maria, Daniel, Catlyntje, Catlyntje, and Johannes Pels, all baptized in the New York Dutch Church between 1708-1717. Elizabeth's will was dated Apr.10,1761, and probated Apr.22,1762. She named her two daughters by 1st husband, Daniel, as executors of her will, that is, Josyntie, wife of Abraham Ten Eyck(m.24 Jan 1725), and, Elizabeth, wife of John Van Voorst(m.6 May 1722).(NYHSW:6:146-47)
