Orphan lines, by assigned definition here, can be any lines with ancestral OR descendancy connection problems. They will invariably lack hard evidentiary documentation such as bibles, church or probate records.
NOTE- Elisha BARCKLOW, probable son of Samuel Barkalow(c1760-1835) is an "Orphan Line" candidate because we can't document his ancestry. His descendants we can find. 1. Elisha BARCKLOW, is born, according to census records, about 1794 in New Jersey(age-56 in 1850 Federal census). He was probably born in Upper Freehold Twp., Monmouth County. 2. Elisha BARCKLOW marries 15 Dec 1816, Monmouth Co.,NJ., Amy RADFORD(b.c1794,NJ.- d.ca.1 Jun 1862[burial date],Mt. Holly, Burlington Co.,NJ.), d/o of Joel RADFORD. 3. Elisha BARCKLOW appears in the 1830 Federal Census of New Jersey, Burlington County, Nottingham Twp.,p.155.(1010-1100/1200-2100). He would have appeared in the 1820 NJ census had it not be lost or destroyed. 4. Elisha BARCKLOW appears in the 1840 Federal Census of New Jersey, Burlington County, Chester Twp.,p.270.(0010-20010/1102-10100). Elisha shows two sons, age-20-23, one of those would be Joseph H.(1818-1888). The other has not been determined.
5. Elisha BARCKLOW appears in Burlington Co.,NJ Deed Book. 7. Elisha BARCKLOW appears in the 1850 Federal census of New Jersey, Burlington County, Northampton Twp.(P.O.Mt.Holly),p.409(taken July 29). He is age,56,(occ-butcher) with wife, Amy(Radford)56; son,Joel,21; dau's, Mary,23,Helen,18, and Amy Ann,12, all b,NJ. 8. Elisha BARCKLOW dies ca.1 Jan 1855[burial date], age 60 years. Elisha is buried in a Mt. Holly Cemetery. 9. Amy BARCKLOW widow of Elisha, is enumerated in the 1860 NJ Census, Burlington Co.,Northampton Twp.,p.544, with son-in-law, Thomas A. Heard,54,PA.,wife, Caroline(Barcklow),41, and children. There seems reasonable evidence to suggest Elisha's father might be named Samuel BARKALOW(1760-1835), based upon early census data, known children of Samuel's brothers, and process of elimination. There is a Samuel BARCALOW, b.May 1818,NJ.-d. after 1900,NJ., who is the right age and Christian name to be the other son who appears in the 1840 census with Elisha, but he is most likely the same appearing with his father, Samuel BARCALOW(1780-1865), son of David(1752-1809), in 1850 New Jersey, Burlington County, Chesterfield Twp.,p170. The 7 known children of Elisha BARCKLOW(1794-1855) are: 1.Joseph H.(1818-1888) m. Sarah J.(1814-1891); 2.Caroline(1819-1883)m.1849,Thomas A. Heard; 3. Elizabeth R.(1820-1893) m.William S. Venable; 4.Mary(1826-p1860) m. Arthur Jones; 5.Joel(1829-p1880) m.twice.; 6.Helen(1832-1881) m. Barton; 7.Amy Ann(1838-p1860)
