About 1555 Bernt Lubberdinck was born in the small town of Geesteren. Geesteren is located about a mile from Borculo. For several generations the family resided on a farm named Lubberdinck. The location of the farm was southeast of Geesteren. Local church records list several family members as members.

Later the decsendants of this family moved to the Manor of Borculo. From this point forward the would use the surname "van Borculo"
